Bangladesh takes on West Indies in the second T20I in Dominica on Sunday, July 03. The series then moves on to Guyana for the third T20I followed by the ODI series. The Windies won a Test series heading into the white-ball series. The first T20I ended in a no-result after play was not possible due to the wet outfield.
The match was reduced to 16 overs per side due to wet conditions but the match was finally called off due to multiple rain interruptions. West Indies won the toss and opted to field first. Bangladesh batted for only 13 overs scoring 105/8. The series still remains at nil-nil.
West Indies are placed seventh in the ICC T20I rankings and West Indies eighth. Both teams announced their T20I squads for the three-match series. Mahmudullah will led the T20I side and Tamim Iqbal will lead the ODI side. Tamim has taken a break from playing T20I cricket. Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan has opted out of the ODI series as it is not part of the ICC ODI Super League.
Nicholas Pooran will lead the West Indies after taking over from Kieron Pollard as the white-ball skipper of the side. Pooran and Rovman Powell are the two most experienced players in the side in the absence of Jason Holder and a few other experienced players.
“We know Rovman’s history. He has captained the West Indies before and is also the captain of his CPL franchise. Our role is to look at future leaders as well and we have identified a few, including him, who we will be putting through programmes to ensure we keep them involved in that aspect of cricket” chief selector Desmond Haynes said.
