West Indies take on Bangladesh on a three-match T20I and ODI series after the Test series win. The first T20I will be played at Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica on July 2. The white-ball series will be a nice dress rehearsal for both sides ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.
West Indies has announced a 13-member T20I squad with Dominic Drakes as the reserve player. Overall in 13 matches against Bangladesh, the Caribbean die has won seven matches and lost five. One game ended in a no-result.
Nicholas Pooran will lead the side and Rovam Powell has been made his deputy for the series. Chief selector Desmond Haynes said that Powell was given the responsibility as the side is looking to find and groom future leaders to serve the nation. One big name missing from the T20I and ODI side is Jason Holder who opted out of this trip.
“We know Rovman’s history. He has captained the West Indies before and is also the captain of his CPL franchise. Our role is to look at future leaders as well and we have identified a few, including him, who we will be putting through programmes to ensure we keep them involved in that aspect of cricket” chief selector Desmond Haynes said.
