WestIndies and New Zealand face off each other in the first of the three-match ODI series on August 16. All the matches will be played in Barbados after the T20Is were played in Jamaica. The Kiwis won the T20I series 2-1.

The Windies managed a consolation win in the final T20I but now their real Test awaits in the ODIs. They have lost their previous two ODI series against Bangladesh and India. Skipper Nicholas Pooran and his young and inexperienced Windies side have a tough job against a Kiwi side with all their premier players back.

New Zealand, on the other hand, have really looked a strong side with their senior players back. Along with skipper Kane Williamson, Trent Boult and Tim Southee made a return to the national side. Williamson also congratulated West Indies on the thirdT20I win and also praised his teammates for the series win.

“Firstly, congratulations to the West Indies the way they played. They adapted well. They executed the plans beautifully. They outplayed us. The effort was there, it was great to get the series win. There’s a lot of enjoyment playing in this group. Great to see the team progress and that’s where our focus has been. We rotated a little bit. We saw some great stuff, looking forward to the one-day series” he said.

The WI vs NZ 1st ODI will be played on August 17. The match starts at 11.30 pm IST which is 2 pm local time. Rain might play spoilsport in the game with thunderstorms expected as well. As per reports on Weather.com, there is a 40 per cent chance of rain.

So far 45 ODIs have been played at this venue with 23 matches won chasing and 20 batting first. The pitches in recent times in the Caribbean have been batting friendly and runs can be expected on this wicket too. However, scattered rains might make this a stop-start game.
