The Australian Women’s side had a great campaign this season in the T20 World Cup as Australia defeated hosts South Africa in the finals of the tournament to successfully defend their title.

The semifinals clash between India and Australia seemed to be a nail-biting affair between the two sides as India at one point in the chase looked in complete domination of the game, but skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s wicket changed the game in the favor of Australia.

Skipper Meg Lanning talked about the mindset of her side after India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur spoke in her press conference that the Aussies looked down and out.

According to Lanning, the composure displayed by the Australian team was a key factor in their success during the semifinal against India, where it appeared that India was dominating the match.

Meg Lanning was happy with how her team performed throughout the tournament as they lifted the World Cup title. Australia still remains the most successful side in the Women’s World Cup with no team near their record.

“They were cruising and we were under the pump. Collectively our last five overs were crucial. Getting a couple of wickets in there but also providing pressure on all aspects, whether it’s in the field, with the ball or even body language out there. Harman said our body language was down.

I’ll call bullshit on that. We’re just calm. We don’t panic, we don’t take it out on each other if there’s a misfield or a dropped catch. That’s where we stand out as a team. We’re a team first and we know getting angry about that isn’t going to do about that. So it was a collective effort.”

“Stay calm. It was wrong of Harman to follow that after (reaction after being given out). It sets the wrong precedent for those coming after. I know she was calm after that and spoke to Deepti. But the damage was done already by then.”

After a successful World Cup campaign, the Australian players will now be a part of the upcoming Women’s Premier League which is guaranteed to attract eyeballs.
