The fourth day’s play of the ICC WTC Final was abandoned at Southampton. Now just two more days (Including the reserve day) are remaining in the final with a result looking distant. Rain played a spoilsport on the fourth day after it washed out the first day’s play. The ICC is under the radar of fans and commentators alike are for being under-prepared to stage such a big final.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has taken a dig at the ICC after rain washed out the fourth day’s play at the Hampshire Bowl in Southampton. He took to Twitter to criticise the ICC for hosting the mega final in the UK at this time of the year.

Sehwag compared ICC’s timing of hosting the final with the poor timing from the Indian batters in the first innings. Every Indian batsman failed to time the ball with the team being bowled out for just 217 in the first innings. Ajinkya Rahane‘s dismissal was a perfect example to showcase how Indian batsmen found batting tough on the wicket. While Virat Kohli was out for 44, Ajinkya Rahane was out for 49 on day three which brought about a batting collapse in the lower-order.

After the first day was washed out, the second day’s play saw 64.4 overs being bowled. The third day’s play saw a total of 76.3 overs being bowled by the two teams together. The fourth day’s play was abandoned once again as the rain played spoilsport.

In another tweet, Sehwag pointed out to the lack of swing which the bowlers got on Day 3 of the WTC final.

“Mood swing ho gaya, ball nahi huyi. #WTCFinal21” tweeted Sehwag.

Both sets of bowlers failed to find consistent swing despite the overhead conditions throughout the phase of play. Through his tweet, Sehwag pointed to the same.

It will be thus interesting to see how much of play is possible in the final two days and if it yields a result.
