Zaheer Khan brought up similarities between KL Rahul and Rahul Dravid after the former scored a well-measured 84 in the first innings of the first Test against England at Trent Bridge. KL Rahul dug India out of a hole against England on Day 3 of the Nottingham Test.

Apart from the fact that both share the same name and come from the same city, Bangalore, Zaheer pointed out how both of them are used as temporary ‘keepers for the respective side while playing as a makeshift opener. Talking to Cricbuzz, Zaheer said:

That Rahul also held the wicketkeeping gloves for the team and this Rahul did the same as well. It could either be the Bangalore connection or the connection of their names but he’s very talented too.

Rahul Dravid has done so much for India that this show won’t suffice to talk about it. But yes, seeing such a role model who has done so much for the team compared to him and seeing that he’s being looked at with the same eyes, KL Rahul would be very happy.

After the Indian bowlers produced a brilliant performance to blow away England for a meager 183 on Day 1, it was up to the batsmen to deliver. The first-wicket stand of 97 between KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma provided the perfect platform for India to capitalize on.

Unfortunately, a collapse ensued which put the Men in Blue on the backfoot. Rahul held the fort at one end while building crucial partnerships with Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja later which ensured India went past England’s tally. Rahul fell 16 short of his century but he had done the job for the visitors.

KL Rahul will be talked about a lot throughout this series. The way he has utilized the opportunity, the application he has shown, the way he’s leaving balls and even some of the cover drives he has played, the head position and the perfect lean, he surely deserves praise,” Zaheer reckoned.

India ended with a lead of 95 eventually, courtesy of some resilience shown by the tail-enders. At the end of Day 3, England was 25/0, with Rory Burns and Dom Sibley looking comfortable at the crease.
