Zimbabwe and Bangladesh take on each other in a three-match T20I series followed by a three-match ODI series. All the matches will be played in Harare with the first T20I on July 30. The series is important for both teams keeping their T20 World Cup preparations in mind.
Tendai Chatara and Blessing Muzarabani have been ruled out with injuries during the ICC T20 World Cup qualifiers. Zimbabwe and Netherlands have qualified for the T20 World Cup 2022 after playing the qualifiers.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, will be without the likes of Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah for the T20I series. Nurul Hasan will lead a relatively young and inexperienced T20I side.
“I think the decision has its merit. Sohan( Nurul) thoroughly deserved this captaincy and BCB felt that he can give a lot to Bangladesh in the future, so they gave him the captaincy. I wish him all the best. The Zimbabwe series is challenging for him but I hope he can overcome that challenge,” Shakib said backing Nurul to lead the side successfully.
Zimbabwe last played an ODI series against Afghanistan in June 2022. During the series, Zimbabwe played 3 ODIs against Afghanistan at home. Zimbabwe lost the 1st ODI by 60 runs, the 2nd ODI by 8 wickets, and the 3rd ODI by 4 wickets. Hence, Zimbabwe lost the ODI series 0-3.
