5th February Named as Shahid Afridi Day in Port Arthur, Texas

Shahid Afridi is one of the greatest players to have played the game of cricket.

Afridi played for Pakistan but had fans all over the world, as his style of play entertained the fans throughout the cricketing world. Afridi represented Pakistan for 19 years with his career beginning against Kenya in 1996.

For 6,297 days Shahid Afridi held the record for the fastest century in One Day International cricket in the very first innings, he played in international cricket.

He made his ODI debut on October 2nd, 1996 at the age of 16 against Kenya in Nairobi but did not get an opportunity to bat.

However, the second match against Sri Lanka on 4th October turned out to be one of the most memorable innings in ODI cricket. Afridi was known for his explosive style of batting. He developed a skill of bowling and then became a major contributor to his team in the bowling department.

He played 398 ODIs for Pakistan scoring 8,094 runs and picked up 395 wickets. He also played 82 games and picked up 97 wickets in the shortest format of the game. He was instrumental in his team in winning the T20 World Cup in 2009.

Ever since he retired in February in 2017, he has been focused towards his charity foundation by the name of Shahid Afridi foundation. He has served the society and has helped the needy through his foundation.

He got honoured by the City of Port Arthur’s Mayor’s Office, and 5th February has been named as ‘Shahid Afridi Day.’

“Honoured to have #ShahidAfridiDay named after me by the City of Port Arthur Mayor’s Office, for my cricketing achievements. Proud to be representing Pakistan at home and abroad, Alhamdulillah.”

Anjum Tahirkheli, chair of the Afridi Foundation, tweeted that Shahid Afridi also got honoured by being given the keys to the City of Port Arthur, Texas.
