Alex Carey has represented Australia in white-ball cricket. But he is in no hurry to bag the baggy green. Carey, in the future, can be a contender for Australia in Tests but he wants to be good enough before featuring for the national team in the longest format. His words prove, if patience is a virtue to make a successful start, he has well got it.

Australia’s greatest wicket-keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist is also in favour of Alex Carey. He believes Carey is almost as good as Australia Test captain and wicket-keeper batsman Tim Paine.

Want to be good enough to earn a Test cap: Alex Carey

Alex Carey has a neat glovework to compliment with his batting prowess. It does not matters to him much if he does not features in the longest format because he is a very happy man to feature in the white-ball cricket for Australia. Carey, however, said he will continue to learn and come out good for the Test team.

“If I play for Australia just with the white ball, I’m a very happy man,” Carey said in a video interview on Thursday.

“It’s been a really enjoyable couple of seasons playing for Australia in T20 and one-dayers.

“I hopefully will continue to learn and be good enough one day to earn a Test cap. But there’s a lot to do between now and then and if it does happen.”

Carey has played 36 ODIs for Australia and 28 T20Is. He averages 34 in the ODIs and around 15 in the shortest format. The 28-year-old also has a phenomenal strike rate of 124.46 in the T20Is.
