Alex Carey, Australian white-ball wicketkeeper-batsman, has said that he and his fellow teammates who are undergoing 14-day isolation in Sydney are in good spirits despite having not met their respective families for months.

Carey and his fellow Australian teammates returned to the country after having participated in the Indian Premier League, which took place in the bio-secure environment of the United Arab Emirates, and are currently mid-way through their 14-day isolation period along with the Indian team.

Despite being in quarantine, the Australian and Indian players have been allowed to train outdoors and according to Alex Carey, the feeling of going outside after being consigned to hotel rooms for a major part of the day has brought a lot of energy to the group sessions.

“It’s really strict – which is good. Once we’re back in the hotel from training we’re locked in our rooms. No contact with anyone else. At 9 a.m., we’re really excited to get out of the hotel and head to training which brings a lot of energy to group sessions,” Alex Carey told Reuters.

“Everyone’s staying really tight on that, we understand that (with) the summer coming up, doing everything right is what we have to do,” he added.

Carey’s hometown of Adelaide has seen a major outbreak of coronavirus cases in the past few days and a number of members of the Australian squad, who participated in a Shield game in South Australia last week, have been ordered to self-isolate at home.

Alex Carey’s Adelaide Strikers teammates are also due to travel to New South Wales for a hastily arranged camp and his wife, Eloise and his two-year-old son Loius have jumped on a plane to Syndey, and the Aussie wicketkeeper-batsman is looking forward to seeing his family for the first time in three months once the isolation protocols are cleared. Till then, Carey is falling back on his teammates for support.

“The relationships we have in this group are something that we’re all falling back on. Joining this little bubble here we get to see our mates and familiar faces. All the guys here are really strong from all the indicators that I’ve seen.” he added.
