Delhi Capitals roped in the Aussie wicket-keeper batsman what will be his first Indian Premier League. The head coach of Delhi Capitals, Ricky Ponting believes that Alex Carey can help his side win a lot of games.

Carey played excellent hands for Australia in ICC World Cup 2019, and now, showing his class for Adelaide Strikers in the ongoing Big Bash League. On Monday, Alex Carey smashed 55 runs off 24 balls to help his side to win the game batting at number 4 position for the team.

Speaking of Alex Carey, Delhi Capitals; head coach, Ricky Ponting stated that Carey has got a calm head on his neck, which will help the team to make things fall in place. Further, he added that the wicket-keeper batsman could also be the backup option for Rishabh Pant.

Further, explaining the reason, Ricky Ponting quoted that Alex Carey’s new role in the Big Bash League was the main reason for his team to go for him during the IPL 2020 auction. And also, Carey has got the ability to tackle the spinners on the Indian soil, which prompted Delhi to go for him.

“This role that he’s playing now is the exact reason he became so appealing to the Delhi Capitals and me,” Ponting was quoted as saying by the Cricket Australia website while commentating from Adelaide Oval on Monday night.

”He’s a good player of spin, and he’s got such a good cricket brain and a sensible head on his shoulders that I feel he’ll be able to get us across the line in a lot of games (next) year. And also if we have an injury to our current wicket-keeper, Rishabh Pant, then obviously he can fill that role nicely for us as well,” Ricky Ponting said.
