England star Alex Hales has delivered an update on his health after reports emerged that he has been tested positive for coronavirus. The England batsman was recently in Pakistan for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and returned home last week.

The hard-hitting batsman delivered the update after rubbishing the news of him showing symptoms of the novel coronavirus which led to the cancellation of the PSL.

Dubai-based Gulf News claimed a foreign player showed symptoms of Covid-19 after returning to England which is why the PSL had to be cancelled on Tuesday. They did not name the player but Hales’s name emerged after former Pakistan Test captain Ramiz Raja claimed it could have been the English batsman who showed symptoms of the dangerous virus.

Alex Hales did show symptoms after flying home from Pakistan but has confirmed that he has not been tested yet. He took to Twitter to state that he is in self-isolation in the UK after experiencing symptoms of the coronavirus.

“In light of the speculation and rumour that is currently circulating within the cricket world and on social media, I felt I needed to give a full explanation of my situation,” Alex Hales said in the statement.

“Like many other overseas players, I reluctantly left the Pakistan Super League early because, with COVID-19 reaching global pandemic status, I felt it was more important to be with my family rather than face a period of lockdown thousands of miles from home.

“I returned to the UK in the early hours of Saturday morning feeling perfectly fit and healthy and with absolutely no symptoms of the virus

“However, I awoke early on Sunday morning having developed a fever and followed the government’s advice of self-isolation, a process I am obviously still following having developed a dry and persistent cough.

“At this stage, it has not been possible to be tested although I am hopeful that might be the case later today so that I can get absolute confirmation of my current health status,” he added.

The PSL was called-off on Tuesday as the coronavirus cases in the country increased. The semifinal matches between Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi, and Karachi Kings against Lahore Qalandars will now be rescheduled. Both the games were scheduled to take place today while the final was scheduled for tomorrow.
