Before the start of the T20I series against Bangladesh, India’s stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma had made it clear that the team needed to be more consistent in T20Is. However, India were in for a big surprise as Bangladesh stunned them by seven wickets in the series-opener. But the Tigers’ happiness was short-lived as Rohit Sharma led India to a stunning series-levelling win in the second T20I.

The skipper led from the very front, helping the hosts dismantle Bangladesh by eight wicket. Chasing a modest 154 on a good batting track, Rohit Sharma came out all guns blazing. In the third over, he hit two fours and a six off Mustafizur Rahman to get going. By the time the powerplay ended, India had raced away to 63 for no loss with Rohit scoring 46 off them from just 21 balls.

Rohit soon completed his fifty with a six from just 23 balls. He continued his batting in the same manner while his partner Shikhar Dhawan looked more than happy to play as a second fiddle. The two added 118 runs for the first wicket before departing in quick succession. While Dhawan departed for 31, Rohit departed for 85. India eventually chased down the total in the 16th over to draw level in the series.

Earlier in the game, India did well to restrict Bangladesh to a modest 153 for 6 on a good batting pitch. Bangladesh were off to a good start with their openers Mohammad Naim and Liton Das adding 60 runs for the first wicket. But India struck back by taking some quick wickets which eventually helped them finish well with the ball.

Speaking at the end of the match, Rohit Sharma made it clear that the job has not been done yet. The skipper said that the team has its eyes set on finishing the series strongly. He also spoke about spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar.

“Both the spinners arr very smart and they understand their bowling really well. They always have converstaions with coach and the captain as how to improve. They played a lot of domestic cricket and Sundar has been our new ball bowler and today I wanted to change it considering how big the ground is.

Quite an emotional guy on the field and some of the decisions we made in the last game, we were pretty sloppy but the focus is to get the job done and those are the emotions that come out. Always know this is a good track to bat on and with dew coming in it will be difficult for the bowlers to grip the ball and we took maximum advantage of that. I knew the conditions were perfect and all I wanted to do was remain stationed and tonk the ball. We want to finish well and there is a whole West Indies series coming up and not to forget the two Test matches as well,” said Rohit Sharma.

The series will now be decided on Sunday when both the teams lock horns against each other in the third and final T20I in Nagpur.
