BCCI’s Acting Secretary Amitabh Choudhary, in recent developments, locked horns with CoA members regarding the appointment of the new General Manager (marketing).

Choudhary refused to sign the appointment letter of the GM which was finalised by the two-member COA committee. In his scathing letter to CoA, Choudhary pointed out that appointment of this nature, which brings in huge financial liability for BCCI regarding salary, should be placed before the general body for ratification.

It is learnt that CoA organised interviews and shortlisted candidates by BCCI’s head-hunting agency Kornferry and a former Page 3 journalist. Vinod Rai hired his services for a whopping sum of Rs 1.65 crore per annum.

That said, BCCI officials apparently were intimated about the process before Rai asked Choudhary for his signatures. The other factor which created an uproar was the requirement of a ‘Page 3 and film production background with no distant connection with cricket or sports marketing’.

Like all appointments, this too places a financial liability on BCCI: Choudhary

Initially, I had considered desisting from responding to your comments on day-night Test match issue respecting your position. Thinking it was better to take matters forward rather than accentuate difference. Since that is how I have been functioning vis a vis COA,” wrote Amitabh Choudhary in his letter.

However, the instant manner where an appointment contract is sent for my authentication. Even though I have once again not been part of the decision making process on the appointment,” added the Acting Secretary of BCCI in his scathing letter.

In the same having been done without the concurrence of office-bearers, if not the General Body surprises me. More so when the said appointment is on a post which was not only hitherto non-existent. But also one of the positions recommended by Justice Lodha Committee. Like all appointments, this too places a financial liability on BCCI,” ended Amitabh Choudhary.
