Amol Muzumdar Appointed As South Africa’s Interim Batting Coach

Ahead of the series against India, the visitors South Africa has named Amol Muzumdar of India as interim batting coach. Muzumdar was a domestic stalwart and the second-highest run-getter in the history of Ranji Trophy. He played 171 first-class matches for 11167 runs at an average of 48.13 with 30 centuries and was unfortunate to miss out on national selections.

Amol Muzumdar on Monday was appointed as the interim batting coach of the South African team, that will arrive in India for the three-match Test series from October 2. The 44-year-old has already got the high-performance certificates from BCCI, Cricket Australia and from a few county sides of England.

Amol is a perfect fit for us – CSA Director

He has previously been appointed the batting coach of IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals. He also coached India’s U19 and U23 side at the National Cricket Academy. In December 2013, he also took over as the batting coach of the Netherlands.

“Amol is a perfect fit for us. He brings an intimate knowledge of Indian playing conditions. And also, the challenges our batsmen are likely to face. He also assisted us at the spin bowling camp we held recently in India. Thus has already built up a good working relationship with Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma and Zubayr Hamza.”

Speaking of the same, Amol Muzumdar quoted that he is honoured to take the role for an international team. Amol believes that he can deliver the goods with the young batting lineup of South Africa.

“I was approached last week and I have accepted the challenge. To be associated with an international side is a huge honour,” Muzumdar, who played most of his cricket for Mumbai before moving to Assam, told PTI.

South Africa are scheduled to play three Test matches in India in October after beginning their tour with three T20 Internationals starting from September 15. South Africa’s A team has already visited India and playing with the hosts A team.
