After exactly 365 days of being appointed as the head coach of Indian cricket and a record of 12 wins in 17 Test matches India played under the legendary leg-spinner, Anil Kumble called it quits from the post of Indian cricket teams coach and did not travel with side to the Caribbean.
Kumble calling it quits sparked outrage in the media which brought out the real reason for Kumble’s ouster.
The Kohli-Kumble fiasco divided the Indian cricketing fraternity raising the question that should the captain have a say in the selection of the national team’s coach.
Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly said the cricket advisory committee which includes him, VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar tried to make peace between Kohli and Kumble.
In an interview when Barkha Dutt asked him that if he tried to sort things out between the two Ganguly said,
“We tried, we went up to Virat and said do something and sort it out and move on. I think he will be helpful. He’s a good man; he doesn’t have a bad bone in his body. I think there’s some miscommunication.”

Talking about Virat’s personality,
“He’s a great person too. I don’t meet him much but I see him on TV, and what he does in life you see there is heart somewhere. I actually am fond of both of them and have so much respect for both individual for what they have done in cricket.”
Ganguly played most of his cricket with Kumble and said Kumble does not have a bad bone in his body. He said,
“I know Anil so closely, and there’s not a bad bone in his body. Yes, he is intense, and he wants to win. He’s aggressive when he bowled you could see it on his face. That’s the personality, and that isn’t bad personality.”
“I thought they would be a fantastic partnership, the teams still doing well but even with Anil, it would have been remarkable. I think when top successful people meet and get together then that sort of adjustment is required.”
