Army Chief Approves MS Dhoni's Request To Train With Parachute Regiment

Former India skipper MS Dhoni has got the green light to serve the Indian Army. The legendary wicketkeeper-batsman has taken a two-month break from cricket in the wake of the recent criticism he is facing after the World Cup. Speculations were rife over his career and what the selectors will do before MS Dhoni made their task easier by taking the break.

Army Chief General Bipin Rawat has approved Dhoni’s request to train with the Parachute regiment for two months, according to ANI. The World Cup-winning skipper had requested the Indian Army to allow him to train with a territorial army battalion of the Parachute regiment for two months.

“The request has now been approved by the Indian Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat and the honorary Lt Col would train with the Parachute regiment battalion,” top Army sources told the news outlet.

Dhoni would now train with the Parachute regiment, a part of which is expected to take place in Jammu and Kashmir. The Army, however, will not let Dhoni be a part of any active operation. Dhoni’s decision has pretty much taken off the focus from his future at the moment. The veteran was making the news for all the wrong reasons in the World Cup.

He was facing criticism for his approach in the middle order and gifting away runs as a keeper. Dhoni conceded most runs as a wicket-keeper in World Cup 2019, and his strike rate did not help his cause either. His knock against Afghanistan was so uncharacteristic that even the legendary Sachin Tendulkar questioned his intent.

Dhoni, meanwhile, is likely to be seen in action next when South Africa visit India in September. Before that, India will play three ODIs, three T20Is and two Tests against West Indies.
