ICC Under-19 World Cup final hero Manjot Kalra met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who congratulated him on his performance.

Kalra had starred with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 101 to help India lift the coveted title for a record fourth time. He faced 102 balls and clobbered eight fours and three sixes to help India beat Australia in the final. Chasing a modest 217 to win, India cruised past the target with more than 11 overs remaining.

Kalra had started the tournament with a solid 86-run knock against Australia. However, he had a dip in form for a while. He could score only a total of 18 in next three matches. The left-handed batsman roared back to form with a solid 47 against Pakistan in the semifinal.

He then went on to finish the tournament in the best possible manner. Kalra was declared the man of the match in the finals. He had also been selected in the ICC team of U-19 Cricket World Cup.

He had received widespread praise for his monumental knock, and Mr Kejriwal has become the latest to shower praise on the youngster.

“We all are very proud of you (Kalra), not only Delhi but the entire nation is looking forward to your career ahead,” a statement quoted the chief minister as telling Kalra during the meeting.

In the statement, Kejriwal said the Delhi government was always there for any assistance. Well, Kalra would definitely like some support from the authorities in the coming days.

Before the World Cup, Kalra was going through a tough time due to age-fudging allegations. But things eventually ended in a positive manner and Kalra scored a brilliant 172 against Punjab in the Cooch Behar Trophy to seal his spot in the squad for the Under-19 World Cup.
