A battle within the battle always excites us the most. Shane Warne vs Sachin Tendulkar, Allan Donald vs Michael Atherton, Glenn McGrath vs Brian Lara and so on. Former Australian legendary leg-spinner Shane Warne has revealed the England bowler who can cause trouble to first match hero Steven Smith. Smith was unstoppable in the first Edgbaston Test match as he scored twin hundreds to help Australia propel to a 1-0 lead. The talismanic batsman had scored 144 runs in the first essay and backed it with another 142 in the second dig.
Meanwhile, Shane Warne believes Jofra Archer can be the England bowler who can breathe down the neck of Smith in the second Test match at Lord’s. Archer is expected to make his Test match debut for England as the gun pacer was included in the 12-man squad. The hosts will be without the services of their veteran fast bowler James Anderson who is ruled out with a calf injury. Thus, Archer will be in the playing XI come the second Test match from 14 August.
Smith was magnificent in the first Test match.
“Steve (Smith) has been the star of the show so far but now we have Jofra joining his Royals (and England) team-mates Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler,” Warne, who had led Rajasthan to glory in the inaugural IPL season said.
Archer has express pace under his belt and Warne believes no batsman likes to face bowlers who have extra speed. Furthermore, Archer is relentless in his approach and he is accurate with his line and length. The lanky fast bowler had also scalped a six-wicket haul for Sussex against Gloucestershire.
Archer can ask some serious questions.
“Obviously I would love to see Steve go on and score a hundred in every single innings for the rest of the Ashes but with Jofra coming in I think he’ll be set to face his biggest challenge yet and this could make the difference in the upcoming Tests.
“No one likes to face tall 90 mph bowlers.”
Meanwhile, both Steven Smith and Jofra Archer are familiar with each other as they have played together for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. However, Test match cricket is a different ball game altogether. Smith has been in sublime form and he would like to give his best against Archer.
Who is going to come on top?
“They (Archer and Smith) will have faced each other a lot in the nets so if anyone will have a plan, it will be Jofra,” Warne added.
It is going to be an interesting battle between Steven Smith and Jofra Archer. The England fast bowler will be playing his debut Test match and it would be interesting to note his plans against in-form Smith.
The second Ashes Test match will begin from 14 August at the Mecca of Cricket.
