Asia Cup 2018: Super Four, Match 1 - India vs Bangladesh - Twitter Erupsts as India Beat Bangladesh by Seven Wickets
Updated - 22 Sep 2018, 01:45 AM
Team India continued their dominant run in this ongoing Asia Cup as they beat Bangladesh by seven wickets at the Dubai International Stadium on September 21 (Friday).
Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja scripted a memorable comeback to restrict Bangladesh for a mere 173 runs. Playing his first ODI since July 2017, replacing injured Hardik Pandya, the left-armer did not show any signs of rust as he ripped through the heart of Bangladesh’s batting order. Jadeja finished with impressive figures of 4 for 29 on a day when India’s wrist spinners didn’t have any rewards to speak for their tight efforts.
Bangladesh, meanwhile, had Mehidy Hasan to thank as he launched a counteroffensive in the back end of the innings. He scored a battling 42 that lent some respectability to the total after they were reeling at 101 for seven at one stage. Having lacked any partnership of substance in the first half, Mahmudullah and Mosaddek Hossain went about trying to set that straight, albeit in a watchful manner.
Having overcome their struggles against the spinners, the sixth wicket pair added 36 runs before a poor leg-before call caught Mahmudullah by surprise. Jadeja then bagged his fourth in his final over after an ill-advised slog sweep by Mosaddek.
Furthermore, Mehidy Hasan partnered skipper Mashrafe Mortaza to led a spirited fight back. They added a 66-run partnership with Mehidy pressing the gears on. However, both fell in quick succession to the pacers, who finished with three wickets apiece as Bangladesh’s innings came to an end with five deliveries remaining.
India, meanwhile, got off good opening start banking on their openers, who have been in good form in this Asia Cup.
Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma added 61 runs for the first wicket to set the platform for the men in blues. While Dhawan played a patient knock, Sharma took the attack to the opposition.
Although Dhawan (40) departed, Ambati Rayudu made sure they are well on board for an easy chase. Rohit brought his consecutive half-century as India crossed the 100-run mark. However, the wicket of Rayudu brought MS Dhoni to the crease with 68 runs still needed to win. Dhoni looked well set to chase down the target but fell short of four runs to win.
Rohit Sharma (83) played a captain’s knock to see his team through without any further damage. India chased down the target in just 36.2 overs with seven wickets in hand.

So Mehidy Hasan, instead of going for a catch with fingers under the ball, palms the ball down onto the ground.
Then asks umpire to check for a catch.
What a day for Bangladesh…#INDvBAN #AsiaCup2018 #AsiaCup

As #MSD has come in Number 4 postion, #Rohit fans would now say that he loves MS at 4. Frankly, India has around 22 matches more before World Cup, and they have to experiment everyone at that position.#AsiaCup2018 #INDvBAN #BANVIND
