Former India batsman Virender Sehwag congratulated Team India after their comprehensive win over Bangladesh in the Asia Cup.

India began their account in the Super Four stage of the competition on a stunning note by dispatching Bangladesh by seven wickets. It was yet another dominating display from the Men in Blue as they showed their title-credentials once again.

Rohit Sharma’s decision to bowl first was totally justified by his bowlers. Liton Das and Nazmul Hossain Shanto were back in the hut even before the fans could settle down. The duo could add only 15 runs before Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck to remove Liton. The right-hander pulled a short delivery straight to Kedar Jadhav at fine leg where he took a good low catch. 1 run later, Bumrah made Shanto edge one to Shikhar Dhawan at first slip.

Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim stopped the rot for a while before they lost three wickets in quick time. Ravindra Jadeja broke the 26-run stand by dismissing Shakib. The dismissal brought together Mushfiqur and Mithun in the middle. The duo had saved Bangladesh with a century-plus stand in the first game of the competition.

The duo, however, could add only 18 runs before Jadeja struck to remove both of them in quick succession and reduce the Tigers to 65 for 5. Mahmudullah and Mosaddek Hossain once again revived Bangladesh’s hopes with a 36-run stand before the Tigers suffered another setback. Both of them returned to the pavilion on the same score as Bangladesh found themselves 7 down for just 101.

But just when it looked India would wrap up Bangladesh innings soon, Mehidy Hasan and Mashrafe Mortaza shared a fifty-plus stand to give their team a much-needed lift. The duo 66 runs before Bhuvneshwar Kumar accounted for Mortaza who scored 26. Bangladesh were eventually all out for 173.

In reply, India chased down the total inside 37 overs by losing just three wickets. Rohit Sharma led the chase with an unbeaten 83.

And as soon as the game ended, Virender Sehwag took to Twitter to praise and congratulate the team, writing:

“Congratulations India on a well deserved victory. Great team effort, wish the team the very best for the matches to come.”
