Recently, Australia suffered a great tragedy. The widespread bushfire had affected a major part of the country and claimed many lives. Various cricket clubs all across the country have also suffered a lot due to the bushfires. To raise funds for the victims, a game was held by the name of Bushfire Cricket Bash, wherein, legends of cricket participated in it.
Cricket Australia (CA) organized this game on Sunday in Melbourne. The body has already contributed AUD 2 million towards the development and betterment of the clubs and associations related to the game in the country. This is indeed a commendable effort from the Australian board and the cricketers.
Cricket Australia to Raise More Funds
All the contribution will go towards the Community Bushfire Recovery Fund established by Cricket Australia (CA) and is in addition to the AUD 2 million CA has already contributed to support impacted clubs and associations across Australia.
Cricket Australia CEO, Kevin Roberts said, “The $2 million contribution draws from the Grassroots Cricket Fund through which players have committed $30 million over the next five years to give back to the communities that have shaped the players into the cricketers they are today.”
Roberts added, “The thoughts of the Australian cricket family are with the many communities who have been impacted by the recent bushfire emergency. As the fire situation is still an active threat in several areas across the country, the assessment process of impacted communities will take some time before we are able to assess the detail of support from the Community Bushfire Recovery Fund.”
The legends of cricket came out from retirement to play a charity game for the bushfire victims in Melbourne on Sunday.
Legends including Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist, Brian Lara, and Yuvraj Singh took to the field for the game. Ponting XI won the game by 1 run as we witnessed a lot of amusing incidents on the ground.
