The Australian team looked quite dull and hapless in the field on day four, especially pace ace Mitchell Starc. In the first innings, Starc bowled 19 overs and scalped two wickets, conceding 63 runs; and with the new ball, Starc looked poor as well. Meanwhile, Glenn McGrath, the former Aussie legend says Mitchell doesn’t seem to be in the best of rhythms.

McGrath on Mitchell Starc’s rhythm

It looked as Starc has lost his rhythm. Former great Glenn McGrath said Starc doesn’t quite have the rhythm at the moment. The body language, the run-up and the follow through; everything lacked in the set-up.

“At the moment he just doesn’t seem to have that rhythm,” McGrath said on Seven. “If you’ve got good rhythm in your run-up, good intent running in and building up pace … a strong front arm and getting through the crease (you’re likely to be bowling well).” McGrath noticed.

Australia in on back-foot, India takes the lead

However, the former fast bowler observed Starc wasn’t using the run-up and thus trying to do it all around the crease. The two howlers down the leg side costing eight runs didn’t help matters much either. India kept on building their lead after getting Australia bowled out for 235 in the first innings.

Meanwhile, the visitors ended the day with a lead of 166 and Cheteshwar Pujara’s 71 only added to the misery. Out of form Ajinkya Rahane also got back in the groove, scoring an efficient fifty. The visitors stretched past the lead to 300.

McGrath also said Starc currently lacks the confidence.

“We saw two balls where (he) dragged it down the leg side (and) went for four byes. You know when you (don’t have) rhythm, it’s coming out poorly. He’s not using his run-up, he’s trying to do it all at the crease.” he said.

In their second innings, India team got wrapped on 307, giving a target of 323 to the Australians.
