Well, it was quite a day of cricket in Perth. Both India and Australia displayed high-quality cricketing skills on the field to put fans on the edge of the seats. Meanwhile, the former Australian captain, Michael Clarke, in his analysis, felt India missed the trick by not playing a spinner in the ongoing Perth Test.
From the 13-member squad list, Virat Kohli and the team management preferred Umesh Yadav over Ravindra Jadeja and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. It seems like the move backfired, as Umesh Yadav wasn’t that threating on the Perth wicket.
I think Ravindra Jadeja would have taken wickets – Michael Clarke
Michael Clarke quoted the Indian side would have picked Ravindra Jadeja in the team. He believes Jadeja would have been the wrecker-in-chief and also helps in knocking runs for the team at crucial junctures of the game.
Meanwhile, Michael Hussey feels India dearly missed Ravichandran Ashwin on day one of the Perth Test. Further, he predicted Nathan Lyon is going to play a key role as the Test progresses.
“Watching him [Vihari] take wickets, I have no doubt that India missed a trick by not playing a spinner,” said Clarke on a post-play show. “I think Ravindra Jadeja would have taken wickets, and seeing the wicket I think Nathan Lyon is going to have a big role.”
“Having someone like Ashwin would have been nice … I know they had Jadeja for this Test [as an option] … to keep it tight and rotate the fast bowlers. I think Lyon will have a big role to play,” he said on air after stumps.
Well, it would be interesting to see how things would pan out for the Indians. They have a big task ahead in the ongoing Test with runs on Australian side and the pitch behaving quite superbly for the bowlers as well.
