Former opening batsman of Pakistan, Mohsin Khan feels Australia have a very little chance to win the Border Gavaskar trophy against India later this year. Of late, Pakistan beat Tim Paine’s team by a massive margin of 373 runs in Abu Dhabi and sealed the two-match Test series 1-0. Mohammad Abbas claimed a ten-wicket haul and received a Man of the Match as well as Player of the Series award.

However, Khan feels India has to play too bad down under to lose the series against Australia. He further added India is an improved team and can do wonders on the foreign soil.

“India in Australia is going to be a great series. The Australians are not a strong side as they were, but in their conditions, the pace bowlers will be a threat. However, India are a much-improved side. What is most impressive about India is that they have some good fast bowlers and that will come in handy on the Australian tour. They have troubled sides recently, and I am confident of the pacemen doing well again,” Mohsin Khan told mid-day from Karachi.

Mohsin coached Pakistan team in 2012.

Meanwhile, under Mohsin Khan’s guidance, Pakistan beat England 2-0 in 2012 in Tests. However, it was for his classy batting that Khan is most famous for. He scored an impressive 200 against England at Lord’s in 1982 under the captaincy of Imran Khan. They ended up with a ten-wicket victory over the Poms.

Furthermore, during the Australian summer of 1983-84, Mohsin Khan claimed hundreds in consecutive Tests (Adelaide and Melbourne) against the tough Australian team just before the retirement of Greg Chappell, Dennis Lillee, and Rod Marsh.

Moreover, Khan said India has some quality players, and they won’t get troubled playing in conditions in Australia. Meanwhile, he feels India has the edge over Australia in Tests later this year.

“India play well as a team and that is so important especially on a tour of Australia. They are well led by Virat Kohli too, and the batting doesn’t really depend too much on Kohli. There are other quality players in the batting order, and all this contributes to me being optimistic about India’s success in Australia. Let’s put it this way… India will have to play very poorly to lose in Australia. They certainly have the edge over Australia,” said Mohsin.

However, Mohsin Khan was delighted with Pakistan’s show in Abu Dhabi. Though he was not happy with the first match, as Pakistan at one point was in a prestigious position but the game ended in a draw.

“They were brilliant. However, we should have won the first Test in Dubai. “It appeared that the planning was poor on all counts for that Test. Yes, Pakistan won the series 1-0, but it could well have been 2-0,” Mohsin concluded.
