Australia have revealed their 12-member squad for the fourth Ashes Test against England starting from September 4 in Manchester. Star batsman Usman Khawaja has not found a place in the squad with Marnus Labuschagne to bat at no 3 position.

Khawaja has been struggling with the bat since the start of the series. The southpaw has scored at an average of 20.33 without a half-century in England so far in Ashes 2019. Marnus Labuschagne, who grabbed his opportunity with both hands in the absence of Steve Smith will now slot at no 3.

Meanwhile, Smith who has recovered from injury will now slot back in the second drop position. Mitchell Marsh will continue to wait in the wings for an opportunity in the Test side. He had a good game against Derbyshire but the management decided to persist with Matthew Wade.

Justin Langer, while speaking about Marsh’s exclusion, said that the all-rounder will have to work harder to get his place back. Marsh has played 31 Tests for Australia and is yet to cement his place in the playing XI.

“The tough thing for Mitch and a few of them, is you have to bang so hard to get into the side like Matthew Wade, Marcus Harris did for example,” Langer said.

Meanwhile, Australia will once again be in dilemma over their fast bowlers. Mitchell Starc, who didn’t feature in the first three Test has done enough in the practice match to make his place in the playing XI. It will be interesting to see whom the management drops to slot in the left-arm fast bowler.

Australia need to win one of the last two Tests or draw both the remaining games to retain the Ashes after the loss in the last match.
