Premier Australia spinner Nathan Lyon is one of the finest spinners Australia have produced. Barring a certain Shane Warne who is a class above than the rest, Lyon will definitely stand as one of the finest spin bowling options for Australia, especially in the limited overs format. He recently bagged his 300th Test wicket which is indeed a great achievement given the fact that he has been a bowler who has played most of his cricket in Australia on pitches which are not really conducive for spin bowling.

Nathan Lyon has already bagged 306 wickets in 7 years. After a long thought, Lyon recalled a particular spell which he felt was the best he bowled. However, it was against a No 11 batsman. “It’s quite hard to sit down and name one. Out of all 306 there’s not too many that I say I really deserved that,” he said.

He recalled bagging thee prized wicket of former India great Sachin Tendulkar. The ball turned sharply and went through the gate in Chennai. Lyon stated only a small number of spinners has been able to achieve the feat against Tendulkar. He also loved getting the wicket of Virat Kohli on 6 occasions.

Nathan Lyon recalls some of the good dismissals during his Test career

“There’s been a couple of good ones. Bowling Sachin Tendulkar through the gate in Chennai. I think only a small number of spinners have been able to do that feat against Sachin. Taking someone like Virat (Kohli’s) wicket something like six times. Obviously, he is one of the best batters in the world.

Lyon felt that one of the best spells he bowled was to Chris Martin. Lyon wished he could have bowled that spell to either AB de Villiers or a Kevin Pietersen.

“However, I still believe that one of my best balls I bowled, which is embarrassing, is bowling Chris Martin at the Gabba (wicket No.16). It was probably one of the best balls I bowled. A genuine good ball to a right hander, through the gate.”

“I’ve wasted it on Chris Martin – no offence Chris. I wish it was AB de Villiers or Kevin Pietersen or someone like that but it is what it is.”
