Australia lost four ODI series on a trot and their skipper, Aaron Finch believes the whole team is under pressure. The batters failed to fire when needed, and that led to another forgettable outing against a spirited South Africa side. Meanwhile, Faf du Plessis’ men beat the hosts by 40 runs in Hobart and won the series 2-1.

The last time men in yellow won an ODI series was in 2016/17 contest against New Zealand. They had beaten the Kiwis 2-0 and finished the calendar year with two wins out of 13 games.

“We’re all under pressure when we lose. No doubt about that,” Finch told reporters in Hobart. He also went on to say, “between the batting line-up not having got it right for a little while now there’s going to be questions asked. It’s important that we really start to nut down the balance of the side and get that right moving forward.”

However, Shaun Marsh was moved up in the order in place of D’Arcy Short while explosive batter Chris Lynn opened with Finch. Australia scored 152, 231 and 280 in the three games. They had a forgettable opening game, where they lost convincingly but made a match out of it in the next encounter. They fell well short of the 300-plus target in the finals.

Meanwhile, Travis Head had a miserable series, as he managed to score just 15 runs in three innings. He was demoted to no.4 in the batting line-up after a couple of failures at the top. However, there was hardly any new pattern in the scoring sheet. Furthermore, Glenn Maxwell too had an ordinary series. The all-rounder scored mere 11 and 15 but signed off with a gutsy 35 in the final ODI.

However, Finch also backed Lynn to come good despite shaky starts. The 28-year-old got dismissed on the first ball after getting promoted up the order. The skipper believes Lynn is yet to find his feet in the international arena.
