Australia vs India, 1st Test: Stats Preview – India’s tour of Australia 2020-21

The much-awaited four-match Test series between the hosts Australia and the visitors India will begin on Thursday (17th December) at Adelaide Oval (Adelaide), which will be also their first-ever day/night pink-ball Test. This series is named as Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Ahead of this series, they contested in the limited-overs series. While the hosts won the three-match ODI series by the 2-1 margin, the visitors won the three-match T20I series by the 2-1 margin.

During India’s previous tour in Australia during the 2018/19 season, the visitors won their first-ever Test series in Australia by the 2-1 margin.

i) The off-spinner Nathan Lyon has taken 390 Test wickets. Taking 10 more wickets, Lyon will become the third Australian bowler to claim 400 Test wickets. Only the former Aussie leg-spinner Shane Warne (708 wickets) and the former Aussie right-arm pacer Glenn McGrath (563 wickets) reached that feat.

ii) Nathan Lyon (191 wickets) is nine wickets away to complete his 200 Test wickets at home. He will be fifth Australian bowler and second Aussie spinner (after Shane Warner 319 Test wickets at home) to claim 200 Test wickets at home.

Mitchell Starc – 250 Test wickets, 50 wickets in day/night Tests

i) The left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc has already taken 244 Test wickets. With six more wickets, Starc will be the second left-arm Australian bowler to pick-up 250 Test wickets. Only the former left-arm pacer Mitchell Johnson achieved that feat as he scalped 313 Test wickets.

ii) Mitchell Starc is the most wicket-taker in day/night Test cricket history as the left-arm pacer has taken 42 wickets in the pink-ball Test. Taking eight more wickets, Starc will become the first bowler to claim 50 wickets in the day/night pink-ball Test cricket.

Josh Hazlewood – 200 Test wickets

i) The right-arm pacer Josh Hazlewood (195 wickets) is five wickets away to complete his 200 Test wickets.

Virat Kohli – most international runs for India against the hosts Australia, 10000 international runs at away, top most international runs as a captain against Australia

i) Virat Kohli (2527 runs) is 23 runs away to surpass Sachin Tendulkar (2549 runs) and become the most international run-scorer for India against Australia in Australia.

ii) Virat Kohli (9932 runs) is 68 runs behind to become the third Indian cricketer to score 10000 international runs at away venues. The other two names in this list are Sachin Tendulkar (13780 runs) and Rahul Dravid (11765 runs). Meanwhile, Kohli will be the fifth overall cricketer to score 10000 international runs at away venues.

iii) As captain, Virat Kohli has scored 2175 international runs against Australia. The right-handed batsman is 74 runs away to surpass his former captain MS Dhoni (2248 runs) and become the most international run-scorer as an Indian captain against Australia. Only Sir Viv Richards is ahead of them in this list with 2545 international runs as captain against Australia.

Mohammed Shami – 350 international wickets

i) The right-arm pacer Mohammed Shami has picked up 340 international wickets. He is 10 wickets away to complete his 350 international wickets. Till the date, a total of 8 Indian bowlers have managed to pick up 350 international wickets.
