Once again the absence of Steven Smith and David Warner for a certain series makes into the headlines. Almost in every interview, the point on the discarded players has become an obvious question, and the various individuals have given their voice on it. Meanwhile, the latest to join the bandwagon is Virender Sehwag.

Ever since their ouster from the team, Australia has lost their team balance and on the receiving end of the loss at many times. However, they were pretty strict in their approach, as they never tried to shorten the ban period despite various applications.

Australia might have banned them for five matches – Virender Sehwag

The former swashbuckling batsman, Virender Sehwag feels the 12-month ban of the players has been harsh. Further, he thought it would have been better if the players were banned for five Test matches or so.

And also, he felt the order might have been from the prime minister of Australia rather than by Cricket Australia. Virender Sehwag things it should be the job of ICC Umpires.

“I agree with Aakash Chopra; I think maybe that Australian board had an internal inquiry and from that, they got to know they planned that. Because of that, they banned Steve Smith and David Warner. Because of that and their Prime Ministers were involved in that. The Prime Minister had sent a message to the Australian Cricket Board that they have to take a strong stand here, so you have to ban them. I think because of that they ban these two people but they should not.” Virender Sehwag said.

“I think ICC’s job and ICC’s match referee’s job to look after the game and they will take the decision that if somebody made a mistake or somebody did abuse somebody or somebody is tampering the ball, then what ban they should get. And I think match referee ban them for only one game. So Australia might ban them for five Test matches.” Virender Sehwag added.

Well, as Virender Sehwag said, a 12-month ban is quite a lengthy period in the players’ career. However, it might send a strict note for the youngsters to stay away from such malpractices in future games.
