ToggleWell, it has been a great day at the office for Australians in the first ODI against India. They have completely outclassed Indians in all sections of the game to draw the first blood of the series. Meanwhile, we came up with Australia’s Predicted XI for the second ODI of the series, which is to be played at Adelaide.
Here are they:
1. Aaron Finch:
The Australian opener and the skipper of Australian will once again be the cynosure of the eyes. However, this time for his poor batting form. After taking the captaincy, he hardly achieved success in knocking runs for his country. Besides that Aaron Finch – The Captain, would like to hand Australia their first series victory after a long wait.
2. Alex Carey:
The vice-captain of the team would once again get the chance to open the innings alongside Aaron Finch. He got a pretty decent start in the first ODI but unfortunately, failed to convert into a big one. Carey was in a decent nick in BBL and would like to carry it on against Indians as well. Carey is eyeing one good knock to calm down critic masters.
3. Usman Khawaja:
The stylish southpaw has shown great resilience at the crease in the first ODI of the game. Though he scored at a below-par strike rate, it was the moment, which helped Australia to stabilise the innings. He was brilliant in keeping Indian bowlers away from picking up the wickets as well. Usman would once again play a key role.
4. Shaun Marsh:
The left-handed batsman played a gutsy knock in the first ODI, which was one of the major factors behind Australia’s success. He put on a show with Usman Khawaja to make things look bleak for India. The team management would hope him deliver the goods once again. This is also the time for him to cement his place for ICC World Cup 2019.
5. Peter Handscomb:
Handscomb has been pretty exceptional in the first ODI of the series. He has shown great composure in the middle and peaked at the right time to give a handy total on the board. Peter played out Indian spinners nicely by rotating the strike more often than not. Once again, he would play a pivotal role in the team.
6. Marcus Stoinis:
Can they keep him away? Marcus Stoinis has been brilliant for Australia in all sections of the game. Firstly, he gave ample support to Peter Handscomb in the middle and later, smashed it beautifully to put the brilliant total on the board. In bowling, he kept things tight and took the wicket of Rohit Sharma to end such a fine knock.
7. Glenn Maxwell:
Though it is tough to see Maxwell batting at number 7, this is the only place, which is left in the kitty for the swashbuckling batsman. The vice-captain of Australia Alex Carey also confirmed that Glenn Maxwell will bat at the same position unless any last moment tweaks during the course of the game.
8. Mitchell Marsh:
Well, the recovery of Mitchell Marsh will make a big batting lineup for Australia. Most probably, he would replace Peter Siddle, as he can offer the goods in all sections of the game. Peter Siddle looked poor with his fielding as well. Mitchell Marsh can be the handy option for Australia compared to Siddle in most of the cases.
9. Nathan Lyon:
The experienced off-spinner was quite decent against Indians in the first ODI. He quickly learnt things to calm down the run-rate in the middle overs, which kept troubling the visitors. Though he was whacked for a couple of sixes, he was pretty decent in delivering dot balls more often than not. It means Adam Zampa should wait again.
10. Jason Behrendorff:
The left-handed fast bowler has been one of the major positives for Australia in the first ODI. His incredible ability to bowl with the new ball and old ball makes his presence special in the side. He gave the crucial breakthrough by bagging MS Dhoni wicket at the crunch situation of the game. Though it was a poor umpiring call, Jason was smart in making him commit that.
11. Jhye Richardson:
His performance in the first ODI made him a star in Australia. His quality fast bowling troubled Indians right throughout the game. He was the one, who gave the initial blows by sending Virat Kohli and Ambati Rayudu in the very same over. Richardson will be one of the players, who will be looked out closely in the 2nd ODI.
