India’s wicketkeeper-batsman batsman Rishabh Pant has created a new record after he smashed an unbeaten knock of 159 runs in the first innings of the final and fourth Test match. Pant scored 15 fours and one six in blistering knock. The southpaw batsman became the highest scorer by Asian wicketkeeper while playing outside the subcontinent.

Pant equalled with Bangladesh gloveman Mushfiqur Rahim who had scored 159 while playing against New Zealand at Wellington in 2017. Moin Khan had scored 137 at Hamilton in 2003 whereas Dinesh Chandimal had scored 126 in 2016.

Pant also became the youngest wicketkeeper to score 150 in Test cricket.

Meanwhile, it was a blistering hundred from the Delhi batsman. The left-handed batsman took his time in the initial stages and then catapulted his attack on the Australian bowlers.

Pant came up with clean hitting as he was able to hit the ground running from the get-go. This was Pant’s second Test hundred as it has been a fine start to his Test career. He had scored a fine hundred in the final Test match at Oval against England.

Pant also became the Indian batsman to score a Test hundred in Australia. In fact, the former Indian skipper MS Dhoni didn’t have any Test century while playing outside Asia.

Pant is a clean hitter of the ball and this knock must have given him a shot in the arm. However, Pant dropped a simple catch when Usman Khawaja was yet to get off the mark in the first innings.

Rishabh Pant has grabbed his opportunity with both hands in the Test format and would like to continue in a similar fashion. India has declared after scoring a gargantuan total of 622 runs in the first innings. The visitors are currently leading the four-match series by 2-1 and look good to seal their first series win in Australia.
