Meanwhile, Virat Kohli became the first Indian as well as the first Asian captain to return victorious from Down Under. Despite Australia missing the likes of Steven Smith and David Warner, but one can’t question the hard work and discipline shown by the Indians. However, there will be bigger challenges, but for now, it’s hard to look beyond India as they occupy the top spot in ICC Test Team Rankings.
The visitors went to the final encounter at Sydney with an unassailable lead of 2-1. A plain draw would have served the purpose but Virat Kohli went for the kill. They dominated the proceeding in the fourth Test opting to bat first after winning the toss. Riding on Cheteshwar Pujara’s 193 and Rishabh Pant’s 159*, India posted a mammoth 622 for 7 before declaring. After a fabulous show from the batters, Kuldeep Yadav’s fifer helped India to restrict the hosts for 300. Virat Kohli enforced a follow-on soon after as he was keen to go for another victory Down Under. However, the umpires had to call off the day’s play early due to bad light and play never resumed thereafter.
Soon after their historic win, wishes started pouring in from all over the sphere. Sourav Ganguly also joined the list as he congratulated every member of the squad and urged them to enjoy this moment.
“Tremendous win ..this is what one plays for .. enjoy every moment ..congratulations to every member of the team @imVkohli @BCCI,” Sourav Ganguly tweeted.
