Australia vs India 2018: A 'Jaffa' from Jasprit Bumrah leaves Tim Paine Clueless

Pacer Jasprit Bumrah bowled some searing deliveries including a ‘Jaffa’ to Australian skipper Tim Paine at the new Optus Stadium in Perth. Playing just his eighth Test match- all away from home, Bumrah made an instant impression with his line and length.

Owing to a buildup, there was lot of hype surrounding the fresh wicket in Perth although it was no where close to the typical WACA wicket that generated bounce and pace like no other. Yet, Bumrah and Co. extracted bounce from the wicket and kept striking at regular intervals.

Solid start by the hosts on an uneven track:

The Australian openers provided a solid start. Both Aaron Finch and Marcus Harris scored their respective fifties on a hot sunny day. There were empty seats on Day 1 of the Test match but those who came by, witnessed an enthralling day of red-ball cricket. With stadium having the capacity to house 60,000 spectators 20,000, in any case, wouldn’t have had made much of a difference.

Finch looked more composed than what we saw of him at the Adelaide Oval. He consumed 105 deliveries to hit a perfect 50. On the other hand, Harris broke the ‘code of 26’ and went on to smash six boundaries on his way to a gritty 70. The duo put up a stand of 112 runs for the first wicket.

A ripper from Jasprit Bumrah to Tim Paine:

The wicket behaved differently as the game progressed. On one occasions, just ahead of stumps, Bumrah bowled a peach of a delivery to Paine. The batter was new to the crease, having faced just 19 deliveries for his seven runs.

Paine looked clueless to the delivery that was pitched up and took a sharp swing away from him at the last moment. Though, he managed not to get a nick and remained unbeaten on 16 when stumps came off.

Bumrah ended the day with a wicket from his 22 overs. Ishant Sharma and Hanuma Vihari shared four wickets between them while Umesh Yadav had to be contend with a single stick.
