Mohammed Shami, the premier fast bowler for India in the Tests, is likely to feature in Bengal’s next Ranji Trophy game against Kerala in a bid to prepare for the series against Australia.

Meanwhile, India will play a four-match Test series against the Aussies starting from December 6 after the T20I series. They will be keen to script history against a weak Australian side, who will be without Steven Smith and David Warner. Previously, they had a poor outing in South Africa and England earlier this year.

Mohammed Shami, who made a comeback in the ODI squad against Windies but failed to make a mark. Eventually, the selectors dropped him from the last two fixtures and went for the first choice pacers. However, with the return of the longer formats, Mohammed Shami will once again share the new ball. And to have match practice ahead of the much-awaited series, Shami has expressed his will to play for Bengal.

Shami has expressed his interest to play. If he plays, it’s good for the Bengal side,” CAB President Sourav Ganguly said.

Mohammed Shami met his Bengal teammates on the sidelines of Round 2 match against Madhya Pradesh at the Eden Gardens.

After a first innings lead against Himachal Pradesh in the opening tie, Bengal have piled 510 runs in the first innings banking on skipper Manoj Tiwari‘s unbeaten double century.

Furthermore, Sourav Ganguly revealed that they wanted to play Mohammed Shami in the first game. However, he had some fitness issues and thus couldn’t take part in the tie.

We had written a letter before the first match as well to play him, but he had few fitness issues for which he had to undergo rehabilitation. If he plays, it’s great,” Ganguly concluded.

Bengal will play Kerala in Round 3 of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group B encounter starting from November 20 at the Eden Gardens.
