Australia vs India 2018: Shikhar Dhawan Could be in Contention for Test Squad

India’s premier limited overs opener Shikhar Dhawan could be in contention to be named in the Test squad. The Indian Test openers, KL Rahul and Murali Vijay are not in the best of forms and have struggled to get going on the ongoing Australia tour. Thus, Dhawan could make the cut into the Test squad.

It is reported by Mumbai Mirror that Shikhar Dhawan was spotted in the Indian team’s hotel. The newspaper also claims that Dhawan was seen carrying his kit bag. Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan had a good T20I series as he was awarded the Man of the series.

On the other hand, Prithvi Shaw was ruled out of the four-match Test series after injuring his ankle in the warm-up match against Cricket Australia XI. Shaw was expected to be fit for the final two Test matches, however, he could not recover in time and was ruled out of the entire tour.

Subsequently, Mayank Aggarwal who has scored a truckload of runs in the domestic circuit while playing for Karnataka was called as the replacement for Shaw. Thus, Aggarwal can be in the reckoning to make his International debut as KL Rahul and Murali Vijay have continued their dismal performance.

Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan is spending time with his family in Melbourne. He had a good T20I series against Australia in which he scored 117 runs. However, Dhawan was given his chances on the England tour.

The southpaw opening batsman had played eight innings on the English soil in which he had scored 162 runs. In fact, Dhawan had got off to starts on almost every occasion. However, he wasn’t able to convert his starts into a substantial score. Thus, he was dropped for the Test series against the Windies and Australia.
