Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar shared high praise for Indian bowling attack as they registered their first Test victory Down Under at the Adelaide Oval after ten years.

Meanwhile, the bowlers inspired India to a 31-run victory to go 1-0 up in the four-match Test series. Gavaskar felt that especially with the fact that the pitch at Adelaide did not have much to offer to the bowlers and it was a pretty good batting pitch even on Day 5, made the effort even better.

Outstanding! Simply outstanding. Look there was hardly any help for them from the surface. In South Africa and England, they got a bit of help from the surface or overhead conditions but here, they hardly had any help, it was a good pitch to bat on and on Day 5 there was hardly any grip or turn for the spinners,” India Today quotes Gavaskar.

So the line and length they maintained, the pressure they kept on the Australian batsmen, didn’t allow them to break free at all and that is the most heartening and commendable aspect of this win,” he added.

Sunil Gavaskar said it was a heartening view to see Indian new-ball bowlers torment the Australian batting line-up. He also said that they have been doing well in the last one year.

There was pressure from both ends, the bowlers were relentless, the new ball bowlers were relentless. Ishant Sharma giving the breakthrough this morning with a very well directed short-pitched delivery, I think it was outstanding stuff.

It was so good to see for a change over the last 12-18 months, Indian new ball bowlers making the opposition batsmen duck and leave, that is heartening to see for someone who has faced a bit of that short stuff in the past,” he concluded.
