Former India opener Virender Sehwag has backed young Prithvi Shaw and KL Rahul as his first-choice openers for the upcoming Test series against Australia.
Meanwhile, the four-match Border-Gavaskar Test series will commence from December 6 at Adelaide. Virat Kohli & Co will be desperate to script history when they take on a weak Australian side. The Aussies will be without two of their main players Steven Smith and David Warner, who are currently on bans for their involvement in the ball-tampering scandal.
Ahead of the anticipated series, there have been debates over India’s batting combination. While experienced Murali Vijay has returned to the squad, Prithvi Shaw and KL Rahul have also done well. Virender Sehwag has backed the young pair saying that they should get an extended run in this series. He also said that Vijay has got ample opportunities but has failed to grab those by the scruff of the neck.
“I think if I am the captain I will give full series to KL Rahul and Prithvi Shaw because Murali Vijay got his chance and now he has to wait for his chance again. If somebody flops in eight innings then I will think of giving Murali Vijay a chance. I think those who have been waiting for their turn should get fair chance to prove themselves,” Sehwag said onCricbuzz.
Furthermore, Virender Sehwag shared high praise for Prithvi Shaw, who had a great start to his Test career. He also noted that he doesn’t see Murali Vijay in any of the Tests in Australia.
“Prithvi Shaw proved himself, he scored a hundred on debut and scored 60 odd runs in the next match so he is the future, he will play next 10-12 for years. So he should get the full quota of matches in the series.
I don’t see Murali Vijay playing in the Test matches in Australia,” Sehwag concluded.
