Well, turning the clock back to 15 years, in the MCG Test, Virender Sehwag smashed a fantabulous 195 to his name to put India on a driving seat. However, it was Australia, who has got the last laugh, as they sealed the victory. Despite, India losing the game, Virender Sehwag’s knock was written in the record books with golden letters.

Speaking of the record, Virender Sehwag quoted that he was eyeing for a big knock at MCG, especially, after losing out his goods starts in the previous games. Further, Sehwag added that he wants to make use of his starts at any cost.

Virender Sehwag also remembered the first couple of blows that he took on the helmet before settling in the crease. Once he got into his zone, Sehwag wanted to knock runs in quick time to keep Australia clueless in their field setting and certain plans.

My whole focus was to score a hundred – Virender Sehwag

Further, he went on to add saying that he needs to get a big score once he gets to his century. Sehwag recalled the brilliant knocks played by Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Laxman ahead of MCG Tests and he wants to make a name of his own as well.

“I had scored the 40s in all the innings ahead of the Boxing Day Test, A couple of 47 in Adelaide (Test win) as well. Ahead of the Boxing Day Test, I thought that if I get a start of 40 again, I’ll convert it into a big hundred,” Sehwag told CricketNext. “I wasn’t expecting to score 195 at that time. My whole focus was to score a hundred and after I reached my century, I thought about 144 scored by (Sourav) Ganguly, (Rahul) Dravid’s double hundred in the last Test and VVS Laxman’s 160-odd in Sydney, so I wanted a big hundred.”

“Preparation before the Test was that I didn’t want to waste a start,” he recalls thinking. Then after I got stuck on the helmet twice in the first half hour, I knew that I have to make a big score otherwise I won’t get the respect that I deserve. Back then the belief was there that if you score centuries in England, Australia and South Africa, you get more respect as an Asian player.”

Well, it was a great knock to remember for Virender Sehwag and his fans. With India set to play Australia at the very same venue, surely, one of the new openers would like to touch the glorious feat that was set by the majestic batsman.
