Kane Williamson is one of the finest players of spin. And it would take an extraordinary effort to dismiss the premier New Zealand batsman with turn.

Australia leg-spinner Adam Zampa came up with a special delivery to completely outplay Kane Williamson during the first One-Day International (ODI) at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Friday.

Kane Williamson was batting on 19 runs off 25 deliveries. His knock was laced with two boundaries. Before Adam Zampa was introduced into the bowling attack.

Adam Zampa’s delivery on the good length pitched in line and then moved in to the right-hander as he failed to get any bat to the ball. Williamson, in his usual demeanour, did not react to the dismissal as he walked back to the dressing room.

It was the second wicket New Zealand lost in the match after opener Henry Nicholls was sent packing by fast bowler Josh Hazlewood.

The official website of Cricket Australia posted the video of the dismissal with the caption, “As good as it gets from Adam Zampa!”

All-round Australia beat New Zealand by 71 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Openers David Warner and Aaron Finch notched up half-centuries to get the home team to a good start. Later, Marnus Labuschagne scored 56 runs to help Australia post a total of 258/7 in the stipulated 50 over. For New Zealand, spinner Ish Sodhi was the pick of the bowlers with a three-wicket haul.

In response, New Zealand lost wickets in quick succession. But veteran opener Martin Guptill contributed with a well-composed 40 run knock. He, however, failed to find support in any other Kiwi batsmen as the visitors were bundled out for 187 runs in 41 overs.

The second ODI will be played at the same venue on Saturday.
