It was a pretty surprise call for Kurtis Patterson, who was called-up for the First Test match against Sri Lanka. He was added late to the squad thus making things interesting in the Australian dug out. Meanwhile, the youngster is pretty optimistic about putting on a good show at the Gabba if given chance.

Kurtis Patterson is in ominous form, who is scoring centuries on a consistent basis. He is also a brilliant player of Pink ball, which pushed selectors to give him a call-up. Last week, in the very same venue where the first Test is to be played, he scored a brilliant unbeaten century.

Speaking of the inclusion, Kurtis expressed his happiness for making into the Australia National Team squad at the highest level. Patterson added that he is in a brilliant nick to make things happen for his country. He is sure of making good debut if given chance in the first Test.

I am hitting the ball well – Kurtis Patterson

Most probably, Kurtis Patterson will be asked to bat in the middle-order lineup if handed his debut cap. With Shaun Marsh making out of the squad, Patterson being a left-handed batsman, Australia would tempt to play him in that slot.

“I feel at the top of my game, to be honest,” Patterson said today at Allan Border Field in Brisbane, having caught an early morning flight following his selection news on Sunday evening. I feel like I’m hitting the ball as well as I ever have. Which makes this addition to the squad (a) really happy (one) for me. You want to be picked when you feel like you’re playing well, and I feel like I am at the moment.

“Obviously there’s some hard work to be done this week but if I get the opportunity this week I feel like I’ll be ready for it. I like batting (at the Gabba). I think the last pink-ball game here I had some success, and we had a good win. It’s just a great venue to bat. There are pace and bounce in it, but there’s also value for shots. Chances are they’re going to have slipped in for most of the game, so there’s always going to be gaps in the field.”

Well, it would be a golden opportunity for Kurtis Patterson to make it big for Australia. With the Ashes series at the end of the year, a couple of good knocks would land him in that prestigious squad.
