Babar Azam Becomes The Third Fastest To Score 11 ODI Centuries

Pakistan’s newly-appointed vice-captain Babar Azam on Monday became the third-fastest batsman to score 11 One Day International centuries. Azam batted at the top of his game to score his 11th ODI hundred in the ongoing second ODI match against Sri Lanka at Karachi. The flamboyant batsman took only 71 innings to get to the landmark.4

On the other hand, former South African talismanic batsman Hashim Amla is the fastest to score 11 ODI centuries. Amla who had rock-solid technique had achieved the milestone in 64 innings. Furthermore, Proteas’ southpaw batsman Quinton de Kock had scored 11 centuries in 65 innings and he is second on the list of fastest batters to 11 tons.

Babar Azam is Pakistan’s best batsman.

The Indian captain Virat Kohli had reached the milestone in 82 innings. Thus, Babar Azam was able to overtake Virat Kohli’s record.

Meanwhile, Babar Azam also became the fastest Pakistan batsman to score 1000 runs in a calendar year. The stylish batsman took only 19 innings to get to the landmark of 1000 runs in 2019. Consequently,  Babar Azam overtook the previous record of former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad. The former skipper had scored 1000 runs in 21 innings. Furthermore, Misbah-ul-Haq, who is currently Pakistan’s coach and Mohammed Yousuf had achieved the milestone in 23 innings each.

On the other hand, Babar Azam scored a blistering knock of 115 runs from 105 balls to help his team post a score of 305 after skipper Sarfraz Ahmed won the toss and elected to bat first in the second ODI against Sri Lanka. The stylish batsman scored eight fours and four sixes in his knock.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka is reeling at 80-5 as Pakistan left-arm seamer Usman Shinwari has wreaked havoc to take three scalps.

The third ODI will be played at the same venue on 2nd October. The two teams will also play a three-match T20I series which will take place at Lahore with the first match scheduled on 5th October at Gaddafi Stadium.
