The right-handed batsman of Pakistan Babar Azam scored a scintillating century in the second innings against Sri Lanka in Karachi to finish the year in the sixth spot in ICC Test Rankings 2019. He surpassed India’s Ajinkya Rahane, Australia’s David Warner and England’s Joe Root with his unbeaten century in the second innings on Day 4 against Sri Lanka in the second Test.

Babar Azam has moved three places up to sixth with 767 points under his belt to finish the year on a high. The 25-year-old has had an incredible year in the format, having scored 616 runs from six matches at an average of 68.44 with three centuries and as many half-centuries.

Virat Kohli remains on top:

Babar Azam has been in excellent form in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship. In the four Tests after the 2019 World Cup, Babar has notched 472 runs at an average of 95.50. He was Pakistan’s leading run-scorer in the two-match Test series in Australia. He followed it up beautifully with a couple of centuries in the recently-concluded series against Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, Team India skipper Virat Kohli has maintained his top spot in the latest ICC Test Rankings for batsmen issued on Tuesday. Kohli, who in the first week of December had reclaimed the top spot from Steve Smith, is currently at 928 rating points and is 17 points ahead of the Australian.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson is in the third spot while Cheteshwar Pujara occupies the fourth spot, followed by Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne. Following Babar Azam, Ajinkya Rahane is placed at 6th. Rahane is followed by David Warner, Joe Root and Ross Taylor. The other two Indian batsmen featuring in the top 20 are Mayank Agarwal (12) and Rohit Sharma (15).

Following the series victory, Pakistan has grabbed 60 points for their win over Sri Lanka in the Karachi Test to move to 80 points in the points table at the end of the two-match series.
