Bangladesh Cricket Team have added fast bowler Shaiful Islam to their ODI squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. The team under the leadership of Tamim Iqbal will play three match-series against the Islanders starting from July 26.

Shaiful, who last represented Bangladesh in 2016 will make a comeback considering the hot conditions in Sri Lanka. The 29-year-old cricketer has 63 wickets under his name in 56 games and will be desperate to make a comeback to the side and cement his spot. Bangladesh selector Minajul Abedin divulged the news of the same as they look to return to winning ways after a poor World Cup.

“After the practice match yesterday, the team management felt we might need an additional pace bowler. The condition in Sri Lanka is really hot now,” ICC quoted Abedin saying.

Bangladesh played some spirited cricket throughout the ICC World Cup 2019 despite failing to progress to the semifinals of the tournament. They won three matches in the competition and were close to winning a few more before failing to seal on the crunch situations. The Asian giants will look to make up for the poor run in the World Cup when they go up against Sri Lanka. However, they will miss their star campaigner Shakib Al Hasan who starred with both bat and ball. Regular skipper Mashrafe Mortaza will also miss the series with a hamstring injury.
