Bangladesh vs Windies 2018: Shannon Gabriel Suspended for 2nd Test

After losing Jason Holder for the Test series against Bangladesh, Windies got yet another major blow in the form of Shannon Gabriel. The fearsome fast bowler has been suspended for the second Test after failing to follow ICC rules and regulations. In an official release, ICC confirmed that Gabriel would be missing the upcoming Mirpur Test.
Windies suffer a significant blow
The 30-year-old was fined 30% of his match fee and handed two demerit points thus taking his tally to five. The lanky fast bowler picked up three demerit points during a home Test against Pakistan in April 2017.
In the first Test, Shannon Gabriel intentionally misbehaved with Imrul Kayes during the 8th over of the game. It made him eligible to be punished under the law of “inappropriate and deliberate physical contact.”
“In the opinion of the on-field umpires, this physical contact was avoidable,” the ICC said in a release. “Gabriel admitted the offence on Friday morning and accepted the sanction proposed by David Boon of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees and, as such, there was no need for a formal hearing.”
As it happened:
Coming to the first Test, Mominul Haque’s incredible century helped Bangladesh to put a moderate 324-run tally in the first innings of the game. In reply, the Windies failed to knock it against Bangladesh spinners, who ended up handing 84-run lead for the hosts.
However, the Windies bowlers responded brilliantly to dismantle Bangladesh in their second innings. They knocked out half of the Bangladesh batsmen for just 55 runs on the board, at the end of day two stumps.
Knowing the ball-turning square is on offer, run-making has become so tough at Chittagong for the batsman. It needs a solid batting show from the Windies batsmen if Bangladesh put anything over 200 on the board.
