Bangladesh announces their 15-member squad for the ODI series against Zimbabwe. Meanwhile, the three-match ODI series is scheduled to start on October 21st with Bangladesh playing the hosts. However, Bangladesh Cricket Board gave the maiden call-up to a 30-year-old all-rounder, Fazle Mahmud.

Moreover, the selectors made some bold calls by calling the youngsters to take on the Zimbabwe side, who are currently batting out in South African conditions.

Fazle Mahmud is called to replace Shakib Al Hasan – BCB selector

The left-arm all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will miss the ODI series, as he is in trouble with his finger injury. Meanwhile, Tamim Iqbal also found it difficult to recover from the injury and get his place back.

However, the addition of Fazle sends a right note to the domestic cricketers, as Mahmud’s performance in the domestic cricket pushed selectors to give him a call-up. Meanwhile, Mohammed Saifuddin also makes a comeback.

“We have included Rabbi as a replacement for Shakib Al Hasan because he can bat and also bowl left-arm spin. He is performed consistently in the domestic circuit and also played well in the Ireland tour with Bangladesh A recently,” Minhajul Abedin, Bangladesh’s chief selector told Cricbuzz.

“It is true that he did not manage to impress at the international stage but I’m confident he has left those memories behind. Our head coach was impressed with him and since we need a pace bowling all-rounder, why not give him a try as we are still looking for someone who can bat down the order as well as a bowl with good pace,” he added.

All in all, Bangladesh announced their squad by covering all their bases. Mashrafe Mortaza will once again lead the team after the heroic campaign in the Asia Cup 2018 in the UAE.

Here is the host’s squad for Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe 2018:
