Australian Cricketer’s Association president Greg Dyer said that the banned trio of Steven Smith, David Warner, and Cameron Bancroft has suffered enough. Dyer believes these three players have already gone through a lot and should be allowed to once again play for the national side. Steven Smith and David Warner were banned for a period of one year whereas Cameron Bancroft was banned for nine months.

Furthermore, these three players had to deal with a lot of mental pressure as they were put under the fire. However, Cricket Australia had recently conducted a cultural review. The Australian board also decided that the bans on the trio will be upheld. Therefore, there was no relief for Smith, Warner, and Bancroft.

Let Them Play.

“My message to Cricket Australia is a simple one: these contrite men have been punished enough. Let these contrite men play,” Dyer said. “I add that the ACA will be relentless in pursuing this end.”

Dyer went to say that the Longstaff report suggests Cricket Australia is also responsible in some ways. However, it was an individual howler from the trio, the whole system has played its villain role.

“What the Longstaff Review reveals is that Cricket Australia itself must also take a share of responsibility for what happened in South Africa. Yes, this moment of madness was ‘individual’ but now there is evidence and independent verification of system failure as well. This is hugely significant,” Dyer added.

ACA president said triplet has suffered a lot. They have lost the chance to represent their country at the International level. Furthermore, they have dealt with public humiliation.

“With this new information common sense, common decency, basic fairness, proportionality, and natural justice demand that the punishment is reduced. The players have already lost time in the game, chances to play for Australia, endured public humiliation and faced massive financial penalties”.
