Brendon McCullum loves flying, the world knows. Even three years after his international retirement, there is no stopping the New Zealander on the field. During game number 50 of BBL 2018-19, he along with Ben Cutting almost pulled off the greatest catch ever in cricket. Yes, the internet is filled with some brilliant catches from the fielders; had this particular catch been taken, it would have topped the chart. Though the effort didn’t lack anything, it was just about the timing in the end.

Greatest Catch Ever? Urhh, no!

Brendon McCullum must be thinking, ‘why didn’t I tossed the ball in the air a millisecond before?’ Meanwhile, it was during the 15th over of Adelaide Strikers‘ innings when the incident took place. On the fifth ball, Mitchell Swepson, the leggie, flighted one up to Michael Nesser, who middle-ed it towards the deep mid-wicket area. In the first glance, it looked the ball would cross the ropes for a six, which it eventually did; Brendon McCullum produced an excellent diving effort to stop it.

Though he grabbed it comfortably, McCullum couldn’t balance his body falling on the boundary. Putting his best efforts in avoiding his feet to touch the ropes, the Kiwi tossed it up in the air. Well, his efforts were not the best, as, by the time he threw the ball in the air, he had touched the ropes. Meanwhile, Ben Cutting, who was running towards his right side jumped at the right time to catch.

As Cutting was about to unveil his celebratory mood, McCullum immediately reacted indicating a SIX. For all apparent reasons, the pair was unhappy with the result; but the world could not stop acknowledging the efforts. However, in 20 overs, the Adelaide Strikers scored 176 for eight.
