A ray of hope arises for the ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, as the Bangladesh Cricket Board is mulling to push Shakib’s case legally. However, the possibility of the positive outcome is very little with Shakib himself agreeing to the approaches of the bookies to him.

Shakib Al Hasan found guilty of breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code and was charged for not reporting approaches from an alleged Indian bookie, Deepak Aggarwal. In fact, it has happened twice. Once it was during a tri-series among Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in January 2018.

Later, during the IPL in April 2018. As a result, the ICC handed him a two-year ban (1 of which is suspended) with effect from October 29. With a year of ban to be served, Shakib can return to international cricket only from October 29, 2020.

Speaking of the ban, the BCB Chief Executive Officer Nizamuddin Chowdary has quoted that the board has got limited chances to act on behalf of the all-rounder. With Shakib Al Hasan admitting the approaches, it will become extremely tough to get the result in favour of the all-rounder.

“The board has very little scope to do anything about the situation. The term has entered into an agreement as Shakib Al Hasan acknowledged his failure to report the corrupt approaches. But we have already talked to our legal section in order to have some fact findings. We will see whether it is possible to work out legally or not,” he said.

“I think it is not suitable to make any comment right at this moment. Just a couple of days have passed since the outcome. We will have to discuss thoroughly with board members. Any decision regarding the issue will need elaborate discussion,” Nizamuddin Chowdhury said as per BDCrictime.

Well, it would be interesting to see how things would turn out for the all-rounder. The ban has effectively ruled out Shakib from next year’s ICC World Twenty20, which will be held from 8 October to 15 November in Australia.
