The board has now confirmed the appointment of coaches yesterday.

Arun and Sridhar are already members of India’s coaching staff. It will be the first time that Rathour will be joining India’s backroom staff. He had served as the national selector from 2012 to 2016.

Staring from the batting coach post, Rathour was above the present batting coach, Sanjay Bangar on the list. Bangar had a tough race to retain the position. Former England batsman and coach Mark Ramprakash came third. He has extensive experience of coaching and was most recently the coach of England.

In the bowling coach department, the update did not come as a surprise. Arun has developed India into a powerful bowling attack that has the ability to take 20 wickets in every Test to win matches. Arun had joined India’s coaching staff in 2014 and had made a comeback with Shastri in 2017.

In the fielding department, R Sridhar wasn’t the favourite to keep his position despite improving India’s fielding skills. Jonty Rhodes was also in the fray for the job, that could have made the things difficult for Sridhar. However, Rhodes didn’t even make the cut in the top three.

The contracts of the coaching staff will run till 2021 T20 World Cup, that will be played in October-November in 2021 in India. Under the coaching staff that takes over from the month of September, India will also play inaugural ICC Test championship.
